Who I am

Ilenia Rossetti earned her master’s degree in Industrial Chemistry in 1998 from the University of Milan and a second master's degree in Chemical Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan in 2016. In 2001 she earned her Ph.D. in Industrial Chemistry from the University of Milan. Since 2021 she has served as an associate professor of chemical plants at the University of Milan. She has been a guest scientist at the Universities of Cambridge, Paris, and Cardiff. She is involved in a collaborative research agreement and is currently active with the University of Calgary and a project with Imperial College London financed by the Royal Society. In 2016 she was awarded by the Industrial Chemistry Division the Chiusoli Medal, dedicated to Italian scientists aged 45 or less, who have achieved relevant scientific results of applicative importance in the field of catalysis. In the last decade, her research interests have focused on developing innovative processes for using raw materials and renewable energy sources, designing new processes, or revamping existing plants to adapt to new raw materials, specifically emphasizing economic assessment. The most relevant research lines include the valorization of bioethanol as a renewable chemical platform for a biorefinery supply chain that can be used to produce hydrogen, bioethylene, acetonitrile, and ethylene oxide; the capture and reuse of CO2; the integration of key industrial chemical plants (ammonia, methanol, monomer production) with the use of renewable raw materials.
